Hudson Valley Rail Trail Collaborative Community Workshops and Installation
Workshops: August-September 2023; Installation: October 2023 -2024
Reemergence; Forging New Realities Together is a temporary community installation set in trees, to be created in the summer/fall of 2023 and installed for a year or more. It will encompass art components created by community members of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. The installation will be sited in trees along the Hudson Valley Rail Trail not far from the Farmer's Bridge professional installation. Community members will create mixed-media mandalas, simulated stained glass components, painted rocks and other art components for the installation, to be varnished for outdoor longevity.
The art components will propagate hope, resilience and ingenuity in dealing with the challenges of our constantly changing lives and planet. Issues around individual and global health, climate change, economic security and social justice may be addressed by participants. People from all backgrounds and lifestyles, who are walking and biking, sharing nature, meditating, staying healthy and connected, will bring this project into full manifestation. In a dual process, they will enliven the rail trail public art while benefiting from its gifts.
This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by Arts Mid-Hudson. Cedar components are donated by Limber Trees, Kingston, NY.
